【The gift of life 生命的恩赐】

Since Pangu created the heaven and earth, Earth has nurtured life. Through a long chemical evolution, the basic matrices of life — nucleic acids and proteins — gradually formed. Originally, material molecules arranged themselves in certain spatial orientations to construct individuals with potential self-regulating abilities. RNA/DNA (genes) replicate themselves according to the genetic code, and cells composed of proteins operate coordinately according to the genome, giving rise to plants and animals. Colorful plants adorn Earth with variety, and various animals make Earth vibrant, making Earth unique and flourishing in the solar system.

A seed drifts with the wind and falls on the ground; soil, moisture, sunlight, and air endow it with the necessities for survival and development. The seed takes root, the seed sprouts, and this plant begins its life journey. DNA replicates endlessly, and the plant grows endlessly. In spring, all things revive; nature awakens the plant, and it begins to branch and leaf out. In summer, abundant rain, sunshine, and nutrients ensure rapid growth, flowering, and fruiting. In autumn, the plant gratefully gives back to nature: golden rice, ripe fruits, plump wheat, soybeans, and corn silently contribute to the progress of Earth. The falling leaves in winter are preparation for the next bloom. Everything is so natural, everything is so beautiful. We cannot enter the plant's interior or feel the world it feels; but as we see a hundred flowers contending and all things thriving, we understand that the plant happily goes through its course, passing on the meaning of existence from generation to generation.

When cells that perform photosynthesis (autotrophic) evolved into plants, cells that survive by heterotrophy evolved into animals. Fish freely swim in the water, birds happily fly in the sky, and beasts joyfully run on land. The evolution of life endowed animals with the feeling of happiness; the formation of nerves enriched animals' various sensations. The evolution of each species and nature itself have their own rules; natural selection and survival of the fittest also bring animals to another level. Sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy enrich our taste buds and also give us different perspectives on life.
